Search Engine Optimization is a very confusing subject. Being a business owner I have had to do an ample amount of research on this subject and I am still trying to learn how to effectively optimize the search engines haha. Lets start with what SEO actually is.
SEO is the process of getting traffic from free, organic, editorial, or natural search results on search engines. You do this by connecting your website with relevant words and phrases to what you are selling or the cause you represent.
You start SEO by researching the words or phrases people enter into the search engine to find the goods or services you provide. The best way to start this is conducting a Keyword search. You can do this by using the google adwords tool.
Now... you have to implement these keywords from your search into your website. You need to include these words into the titles of the page, meta, and headers.
Linking your website to quality links is crucial. A good link page would be a target where the readers of that page my be interested in your content or service as well. In my instance I am a caterer that does all kind of events but specializes in weddings. A strong link for me would be wedding dress sights, DJ sights, Venue sites and so on. I want the person that is looking for a venue to also see that i provide the services they are looking for.
If you stick to these basics you will find your self on your way to getting higher rankings for your site without spending a dime!
